BACK IN THE SADDLE!

These past few months have FLOWN by!  After having our second child in November, I was failing miserably on keeping up with my weekly blogging schedule!  However, I am back at it now!  It is amazing how a life event can completely change your schedule, priorities and even brain power.  Hello sleepless nights!  Not to mention constantly hoping that I do not forget anything or anyone somewhere when I finally started to break out of Baby Jail.  My mind was suddenly bombarded with new thoughts and emotions, I had very little left in my body bank account to think about any new topics to write about.

It is amazing how a life event can completely change your schedule, priorities and even brain power.

Sometimes a little time off gives you a new perspective on life, goals, dreams and even just how you go about prioritizing your day.  Blogging suddenly fell to the bottom of the priority list.  Rightfully so? Perhaps.  But, given that it has been something that I really enjoy, I started to feel like a failure.  How could something that I looked forward to every week fall off the To Do list virtually overnight?  So it got me thinking how often this happens over the course of a life time.  This go around, it was the birth of a child.  Other times it has been graduation, moving, marriage, death in the family, losing a job that really take me for a tailspin in search of a new norm.

Sometimes a little time off gives you a new perspective on life, goals, dreams and even just how you go about prioritizing your day.

Major milestone moments definitely have a tendency to shake things up. How well do you rebound? Even other life events such as falling away from new nutrition goals, missing a few weeks or even months in the gym, not placing as high as you had hoped in a fitness competition, not scoring high on a test, etc. can create challenges when trying to figure out “what next?”

So what do you do? How do you find a way to get back to rocking and rolling through life with spunk in your step, a smile on your face and a positive outlook on the future?

Here are a few things that have helped me:

  1. Take care of your mindset first.  Be empathetic to yourself and know that “this too shall pass.”
  2. Focus on ONE positive thing that you are doing really well.  Even something like “I am really good at brushing my teeth every morning!”  Hey!  That is awesome!  Keep it up!
  3. Do something that will fill up your own little personal body bank account.  Schedule a massage, facial, pedicure, movie night…. something that you enjoy doing that makes you feel like yourself again.
  4. Go for a good walk.  Not at the gym.  OUTSIDE!  Look at your surroundings, listen to what is around you and just think.  Talk to yourself if you need to!  (I do it all the time, it’s ok! )
  5. Crank up the music!  In the car or at home.  Just put on some of your favorite jams, really listen and feel the beat move you.
  6. Get rest.  Find a way to get to bed a little earlier.  Even an extra 30 minutes might help a lot!

My two year old daughter has fallen in love with the movie “Trolls.”  One of the main characters, Poppy, has a anthem song that you have to “get back up again” when life gets you down. What are some things that work for you to get through a time that really just rocks your world?  Just get back to it!  Tomorrow is a brand new day.

Tomorrow is a brand new day.
