BALANCE IT OUT!

As a contest prep coach, I know the importance of a great bum.  Yes, a great back side is essential if you’re looking to win a show. But guess what? A great tush with smooth abs and weak shoulders isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Bodybuilding (in the truest sense of the word) is about symmetry. Balance. Proportion. We’ve all seen the guys who CLEARLY only train chest and biceps. You know, the ones with spaghetti noodles for legs. Or the girls who have insane quads but fall completely flat when it comes to hamstrings. Achieving muscular balance is not only essential for the physique competitor, but it’s also really important to avoid injury.

Now, I’m really glad that people have come to realize the importance of building the glutes. But come on – must we focus exclusively on #bootygains with our #bootysquad? Of course for those looking to enhance one muscle group selectively over others, there must be a stronger focus on said muscle group. But don’t overlook the rest of your body! Remember, it’s the whole package that the judges are looking at. While a great derriere is certainly captivating, it’s time that we share the stage with the other muscle groups too. Let’s hear it for #hothamstrings and #tighttriceps!
