Positive Thinking and Mindset

Often times the brain and thoughts are considered something outside of what is going on with the rest of the body. It is almost as if they are one thing, and the way the rest of your body feels and performs is something separate. Yet positive thinking and mindset are very strong influencers on the rest of the body, and should be treated as such!

The Pygmalion Effect “is the phenomenon whereby higher expectations lead to an increase in performance.”  This can apply in every aspect of life.  Performance in the gym, at your job and expectations of others, just to name a few. Believing in yourself, knowing that you can and then setting your mind to accomplish anything is a powerful force.

The little train that said “I think I can, I think I can” is not just a children's story book.  It is real, everyday life.  Your thoughts about yourself DO make a difference in your actions.

What are some ways to be positive with your mindset?

Mantras - As simple as “I think I can, I think I can!” or “I will do this!”

Goals - Short term with small self-challenges. “Today, I will crush an extra 10 lbs on my squat!”

Surround yourself with positive people!  Birds of a feather flock together!

Provide encouraging words to yourself and others.  Be vocal!

Recognize each positive thought!  And also notice the negative.  When a negative thought comes up, shake it off!  And maybe even make yourself get down and do 10 push-ups! That way your physical action helps your mind recognize what just happened.

Set a timer - have a task that needs to be tackled and do it in X number of minutes.  Make sure it is realistic and then when you beat the timer, a strong sense of accomplishment will take over!  Pride and excitement will parlay into other aspects of your day.

Your mind is an incredibly powerful force!  Put it to good use and see what you are capable of!  You can and absolutely will accomplish everything you set your mind to; just believe and be consistent!
