THE POWER OF PERSPECTIVE

Change is hard.  If it was easy, we would all be exactly where we want to be, goals would be met and we would cruising right along as perfect as can be.  The reality is that most of us are on a never-ending journey of change.  And it is usually far from a straight line that is leading you from Point A to Point B.  There are bumps, detours, life events and other challenges along the way that lead you more in a zig-zag pattern.  So how to you manage this constant state of change?  How do you stay positive while you sometimes feel like your goals are so far away?  How do you feel a sense of pride with everything that you have accomplished thus far without being too hard on yourself for everything that you still want to do?

It is all about perspective!  Glass half full!  Never half empty.  Focus on the good, not the bad.  Take a look at your “bright spots” that are all of the glimmers of hope and positivity and block out the negative thoughts, feelings and emotions. This applies to so many areas of health, wellness, physical fitness and also nutrition.

Focus on the good, not the bad.

Let’s look at the power of perspective as it relates to nutrition.  By now, I am sure that you have heard about how important food choices are in accomplishing your overall health goals.  And I am also guessing that your choices have opportunities for change given that you are likely still somewhere in the middle of this never-ending journey with your health.  What is the first thing you do when you are looking to change your choices?  Do you focus on what you are currently doing?  Do you beat yourself up about how “poor” you feel like they are? Do you get a new list of items to try and your first thought is “I do not like any of those!”?  What do you do when you are in this situation?

Consider a perspective shift!  Instead of focusing on all of the “wrongs” and “I don’t likes” and everything in between, take a look at what you DO like and what you ARE doing RIGHT!  And then get excited about all of the stuff that you do like to eat and get creative with the ways that you can prepare all of the items in new ways to change the flavor.  Over time, your tastes will change and you will be ready to incorporate new items that were maybe not very appealing before.  And somewhere along the way, you will be completely surprised about the new variety of foods that you enjoy that you maybe have been missing out on!  Keep an open mind and shift your perspective.  It will go a long way!
