DO INJURIES MAKE OR BREAK YOU?

DO INJURIES MAKE OR BREAK YOU?

I think that an injury is like a time out for your body.  I mean, I know that a LOT of injuries are accidents; fluke occurrences that have nothing to do with fitness or bodybuilding… or whatever sport you’re involved in.  For example, I broke a bone in my foot stepping down one inch.  Pretty pathetic, right?  My husband (IFBB Pro Rob Belisle) just tore his triceps tendon off the ulna falling on the ice going to his truck.  I’ll tell ya, the docs in Emergency had fun with that story.  ‘Lifting a little too heavy, huh?’ was the common question.  And when he told them what actually happened, there was a lot of, ‘Oh, riiiiight…’

Anyway, I digress.  My point is this:  sometimes we need to step back from the physical work that we’re doing to take care of something else. Maybe it’s just much needed physical rest. Or maybe it’s that we need to re-prioritize, focus on something bigger; more important.  I think injury is an incredible test of patience, will, and determination.  There are some who revel in the attention that injury brings.  I mean, who doesn’t want a little pampering now and then!?  Then there are the independents:  they can do it all on their own.  Doesn’t matter if it hurts. They don’t need your help.  Stubborn.  Angry.

I think that suffering an injury is an incredible test.  Will you use it to somehow better yourself?  Or will you wallow in misery, ‘woe is me’-ing to everyone who will listen?  I’ll tell you what.  If you’re injured, you’re still alive.  If you have people to complain to, then you’re blessed to have people who care about you.  If you are stuck in the hospital, then you are fortunate enough to have a health care system that can take care of you.  Be thankful that it isn’t worse, because believe me, it could be.

As depressing as arm surgery could be to a Professional bodybuilder, Rob has taken this injury as a cue to build better legs.  Sure, he’s frustrated that he can’t lift for months… but there is nothing that he can do to change that.  So he has decided to be positive and focus on what he CAN do.  And I admire him greatly for it.

Take the time that you have to heal.  Your body serves you EVERY single day. Even when you curse it. So give it a break.  Take the opportunity to do the things you couldn’t do because you were too busy taking yourself for granted.  Peace out.DO
