OBSERVING UNSAFE FORM IN THE GYM: WHAT DO YOU DO?

It’s January in the gym.  Notice a big difference? Lots of newbies? Well, good for them; let’s hope it sticks.  After all, New Year’s resolutions tend to get old, fast.

You know what else is new at the gym? All the um, interesting movements and form that we see from some of the gym newcomers. But it’s not just them. I have seen many a muscled-up gym rat throwing weights around, with no regard for their safety or the safety of those around them.

So, you’re a seasoned lifter; you’ve put in hours Googling exercise forms and have perfected each one.  Or you’re an educated and experienced personal trainer and, like me, you wince when you see these things happening:  the full forward bend in a seated row; the half-reps with massive weights; you know what I’m talking about.  So what do YOU do?

Do you approach the ‘offender’?  Offer some friendly advice? Or do you just let it go? After all, you weren’t asked… they have trainers for that, don’t they?
