Last week I spoke about the importance of training consistency in relation to doing whatever is necessary, changing what is not working, and refusing to stand still when addressing your training dilemmas. One effective method for ensuring we ‘stick with the program’ is to find someone who can serve as a mentor to inspire positive change, a person who may have been in your position and has overcome great obstacles on their path to transformation success (acknowledging individual differences) or a fitness professional such as a personal trainer who has the knowledge and expertise needed to monitor your results while providing constant, genuine encouragement to ensure you do not give up due to ‘slow progress’. Once you have determined your fitness goals, sought out a professional who may guide you through potential barriers to success and decided upon the path you will take to realize your objectives, seek like-minded people who, though positive feedback and training partnerships, may help you to stay on track while you, in turn, help them. As has been routinely drilled into our subconscious minds ever since we were first explained the fundamentals of goal setting, there is no better time to begin than the present. Do not put off what will undoubtedly culminate in the success you will, through hard work and consistency of action, experience in the future. Once you have started, do not stop. Once you have attained your training goals, set more and again begin the process of working towards them.
