Prepare for Success or Prepare to fail

The most important thing I've learned from my journey to healthy living is this: If you're not preparing your meals for success than you fail. Meal preparation not only saves time, it keeps you on track even when temptation is around. Having your meals cooked in advance and snacks packed keeps you on point with your nutrition which is 90% of the battle.

You can't out exercise a bad diet. Good nutrition and exercise keeps you feeling satiated and keeps your body full of the right nutrients for long term success and minimal cravings.

During my prep for competition and life in general I like to pick one day a week where I spend most of my day preparing my meals for the week. Chicken breast, ground turkey, fish, steamed vegetables, kale salad - these are some of my choices. I also pre-package my snacks, all nuts are packed according to the quantity permitted on my meal plan. If the program calls for 20 almonds, that is all I get. Without being organized it's easy to let it get away from you and over eat, especially with things like nuts. Although they are good fiber and good healthy fats too many keep you from success. Ensuring you measure and weigh out each chicken breast, etc. helps to ensure you aren't eating extra calories 'by accident'.

When dieting down for health or for contest prep you must watch every morsel. Preparing for your day is a great tool to stay committed to your goal when others are eating things that you can't have. Always remember that when you cheat and have even the smallest treat, that may be the difference in placing at your show, and/ or being at your goal when you wanted to. You may only come in at 80% of your best instead of 100% your best.

Are you willing to sacrifice your goal for a small treat, a drink, or that extra spoon of peanut butter?! Most people would say no!! And I would agree, the long term goal is more important than any treat you want in the moment. Success is much sweeter!! It's not always easy, and many will agree that there are some tough moments, but you are much stronger and keeping the promise you made to yourself to stick to your goals is the best thing you will ever do to achieve inner peace. Having balance internally is key to long term success in anything in life, this one element can make or break your success. Chose to be successful and always plan for life's obstacles.
