It is not every day that you get to meet a real life superhero but Janeth is just that. Getting to work with a female police officer in a fitness and bodybuilding show was something exceptional and exciting at the same time. Being able to photograph her hard work professionally and glamorously was truly a reward for me as a fitness photographer. She was there to celebrate her health and beauty by creating something beautiful and memorable. There was this little voice in my head telling me I better take a good picture of her, if not I would be in Jail. :) But how could something go wrong if all the elements were in their place. She was stunning, fit, stylish, fun, positive, and intelligent. It was definitely a privilege knowing her. -ALI SOHRAB

FITNESS MODEL: Janeth Jazmin Del Cid

Bio: I was born and raised in the Republic of Panama. I am the last of ten children. I first came to the United States in 1996. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensics.  I have always loved and respected the uniform, so I decided to weigh my odds between the military and Police. I chose to be a Police Officer because I thought it would be a more active way of helping my Community.

I became a Law Enforcement Officer for the City of Key West in 2003. During my 14 year tenure in the Key West Police Department, I have served in Road Patrol, Mounted Police Unit, Bicycle Patrol, Internal Affairs Inspector, General Case Detective (Major Crimes).

As a child I was involved in sports and played soccer during my school years. I fell in love with the adrenaline I got while playing the sport and being active. I then explored swimming and cycling. I learned that I was a great cycler and decent swimmer, so I competed in triathlons. I participated in sprints, Olympic and Half Ironman distances and became a National qualifier for USAT triathlons.

Aside from being an avid triathlete, marathoner, swimmer and bodybuilder, I am also an AFAA certified personal trainer and Mad Dogg Athletics spin instructor. Needless to say, fitness is more than just my hobby, fitness is my lifestyle.

I have always loved and respected the uniform.

Training Plan: Training for a bikini / fitness competition has been the most demanding and rewarding training regimen I have ever had to follow. I compete in the Bikini category, which demands a lot of leg, glutes, core, back and shoulder exercises. As far as cardio, I combine Plyo exercises, running and spinning classes.

Who is your coach?
Andrew Berry is my coach and his instagram is @ berryswole.

He has been really awesome, down to earth coach to me and I have nothing but respect and admiration for him. He’s a competitor as well and has a lot of great athletes (NPC - IFBB) and titles under his belt. I want to be sure to give him the recognition he deserves. Thanks to him and his program I got my PRO card.

What separates Status from other fitness magazines? What separates Status Fitness Magazine from other fitness magazines is that Status focuses on the everyday athlete. The athlete that has a full time job, a husband or wife and children and still manages to live a fit life and prepare themselves to compete in the most prestigious stages around the world.  Status Fitness Magazine focuses on the real life athlete and individual as a whole, regardless of status quo. I enjoy reading an article about a person that is just like me and works hard to get the results they so beautifully show on stage on competition day. Status Fitness Magazine inspires the athlete in me and lets me know that I, too, can do it.

What would it mean to you to become a “Status Symbol”- To become a Status Symbol would mean that my life of training, inspiring and motivating others is finally taking flight.

What would it mean to you to grace the cover of Status? Gracing the cover of Status would mean my dream is no longer a dream. It would be my reality. I want nothing more than to be able to inspire others and let everyone out there with a story similar to mine know that it is possible. That you CAN do it, that you CAN achieve it. That it is possible.

What was it like working with Ali Sohrab for you shoot for Status publication? Working with Ali Sohrab was an absolutely wonderful experience. My photoshoot with Ali was set for the day after competition. I trained really hard for my first PRO debut in Los Angeles and had high hopes of walking away with my PRO sash and crown.  Well, that was not the case for me. I did not perform as well as I hoped. So much went wrong in my part. I was nervous, disappointed and heartbroken that I did not walk away with a prize or the crown that night. The next morning I woke up and prepared myself for the photoshoot. I recall walking in the gym feeling down and not like a winner in anyone's eyes until I saw Ali.  Ali Sohrab made me feel as if I had won the crown and completely brought my confidence back.  He was attentive and charismatic. He provided great direction during the preparation of the photoshoot. When it was time to shoot, Ali took a couple of pictures and then showed me his camera and my images.  I couldn't believe my eyes.  I remember looking at the picture and thinking to myself, “Wow”, “Oh my, that’s me”.

It was then I realized that I was looking at my competition and results with a negative light. I had to remember that I was already a winner and that I was only in competition with myself. I did not need a crown or a title to let me know, that I had just lived one of the biggest childhood dreams I’ve had since I can remember.

I was a PRO Bikini Competitor, and was competing on stage next to the most beautiful women in the world. I was posing on stage next to the featured PRO athletes I had been following on social media for years. I was that model, I was that girl, I was doing it.  Ali Sohrab without knowing brought so much happiness and light to my day. To me, he was more than just a photographer on the other side of the camera; he was the artist painting his model with lights.

Favorite Quotes:
I have many favorite quotes, but some of the quotes I recite to myself and clients a lot are:

“If you can dream it, you can do it”  - Walt Disney

“Your time is limited. So don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don't be trapped by dogma.”  - Steve Jobs

“You must remain focused on your journey to greatness.”  - Les Brown

“Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.”  - Les Brown

4 things people don’t know about you:
I am the last of 10 children
My name was misspelled when I came to the United States. It is actually spelled Yaneth.
I am a Belly dancer
I play the drums

If you could inspire one person, who would that be? And why? If I could inspire anyone, it would be the young generation. I want to be a good example to all and show them a healthy lifestyle. I believe as a nation we have neglected to pass on to the new generation healthy habits. Instead, we have come up with electronics to put in front of their face and have them work their brain, more so than their bodies.

Who inspires you? And why? My inspiration is my mother. My mother is the strongest woman I have ever met. She managed to raise 10 children and did a tremendous job doing it. Despite the fact that we did not have much growing up, she made us the happiest and healthiest kids. My mother passed on her will to keep trying and never give up.

Your transformation story. I first decided to pursue my dream of becoming a Bikini competitor in 2016, after the passing of a dear friend that was suffering from a terminal illness. My late friend, Sgt. Eric Biskup, made me promise him that I would pursue my dreams and do everything possible to make them a reality.

It was then when I decided to hire a Coach / Nutritionist (Andrew Berry / Team Body Berry) and register for my first bikini competition. I competed and placed first, winning my PRO card on my first show. I will forever be thankful to my friend, Sgt. Eric Biskup, for giving me the push I needed to finally go after what I wanted.
